This is the letter wrote to the NYT in response to their article on Dr Wicklund..of course, they did not print it
As someone who works in a ministry with post abortive women,
I read with interest your November 6, article “Telling the Stories Behind
Abortion”.
Dr Susan Wicklund, an abortionist who travels in order to perform abortions,
has written a book "This Common Secret: My Journey as an Abortion
Doctor". One thing Dr Wicklund and I do agree on, is the fact that no one really speaks of abortion, and that
the women having them are our sisters and mothers etc. Our commonalities stop
there.
Dr. Wicklund paints a heroic picture of herself as the caring abortionist while
leaving out the fact that countless women still die from “safe, legal”
abortion, are left sterile and suffer psychologically and spiritually as
a result .
She feels that a 24 hour waiting period is about "controlling
women" and an "insult". I have to wonder if she believes it is
insulting to women that those who are suffering because of a past abortion are
told their feeling are not legitimate and post abortion trauma is continued to
be denied.
She speaks of lack of money and violence in the home as
factors for abortion, but does not mention that many women are coerced and
threatened by spouses and even parents to abort.
Control seems to be a theme throughout the article which
leaves me wondering who this is really about. She could not control her own
abortion experience but she can control others…or so she thinks.
"This Common Secret…" may be hidden, but the
voices of women speaking out in t
ruth
of abortions harm is getting louder and louder and becoming more and more
public. Perhaps Dr Wicklund should listen to them.
