For the past four years, the Sisters of Life and I have been doing a prayer service to commemorate Roe vs Wade throughout the NY diocese. The first year it was in Yonkers, then Haverstraw and last year in Carmel
Today we ventured out to St Teresa’s in Staten Island…not some place I relish driving to…it seems there is no easy way to get to Staten Island, but it was well worth the trip.
The idea of the prayer service came to me in prayer one day…an afternoon of "intercession and remembrance" for all those touched by abortion. All different people, not just the mothers and fathers, would give testimony. The doctors, siblings, grandparents, clergy, friends…everyone! So I set out to have a person from each of those catagories write a statement to be used in the service with volunteers taking the parts. I went to the Sisters with the idea and with their help and the addition of their heavenly voices in song and petition, it developed into a beautiful afternoon ,that still, after 4 years, can move me to tears…it truly was written by the Hoy Spirit.
I won’t go into detail because I believe one day it will be spreading across the country and you will be able to see for yourself. This year, the Arlington VA diocese actually did the day as well http://www.arlingtondiocese.org/offices/family/documents/DayofPrayerfulIntercession.pdf
and there is interest in other places.
We are happy to pass the format out and help anyone get it started…just give me call if you are interested. It would be great to use in October as well.
Please pray that in Gods time, this will get out there…it is a beautiful healing afternoon for everyone for whom abortion has touched…that means us all! Praise God for His goodness!
