Well, as happy I am that the scandal involving Spitzer may be the beginning of the end of his RHAPP Act http://www.prochoiceny.org/getinvolved/alerts/200705221.shtml here in New York, I must admit I do feel very sorry for him and his family. Maybe enshrining abortion will not be his legacy after all.
This article professes that he is "practically revered as a messiah to the women’s reproductive-health movement " http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/dailydiagnosis/2008/03/eliot-you-forsake-me-womens-he.html
Of course, it depends on what women you are speaking too, certainly none who are suffering from a past abortion feel that way.
Ok, Ok, so why do I feel sorry for him? Well, Spitzer grew up in a home that enshrines abortion. His mother is still a board member of NARAL. You have to wonder what life must have been like growing up in a home like that. And then of course, there is his behavior…is there any wonder he would want abortion protected and untouchable when he is engaging in such activity?
Yes, I know he has not shown mercy to anyone while at the same time he himself was doing illegal things, but for me it always goes back to wanting to show the mercy shown me by God…as is said…it is grace alone that saves us. So, while I welcome the possible demise of the bill, and certainly believe he should resign, I also pray for his conversion, and for his family.
Who knows…maybe one day Governor Spitzer will be one of our greatest advocates for life…God’s grace has no limits….so pray!
