ok, so having been part of a men's ministry for 3 years with Fr Mariusz Koch, CFR, I was not expecting to hear too much new at the conference on men and abortion.
Truth be told, although most of it was a confirmation of what we do, (praise God),it was a great conference with some phenomenal speakers on the subject, and I did hear much new food for thought. The speakers included Cathrine Coyle,PhD, author of the book, Men and Abortion: A Path to Healing,Tom Golden,LCSW, author of "Swallowed by a Snake: The Gift of the Masculine Side of Healing" , Greg Hasek,MA/MFT LPC, Vicki Thorn, Rev MArtin Pable, PhD and Vincent Rue, PhD, Director of the Institute for Pregnancy Loss, who has been a pioneer in post abortion research for over 20 years. Four brave men also gave witness during the event.
So often we focus on the women without truly understanding, or dare I say caring about the men. We have all bought into the "women's issue" speak, when in fact it is a human life issue. We tend to forget that a man cannot even stop his wife from having an abortion of she wants one, and the agony it must be for him to have to stand by while his unborn child is being killed and there i s nothing he can do. The confusion in the message of aboriton and the many dynamics it manifests for men is amazing.
A grassroots effort is beginning, and I have no doubt it will continue to grow as more and more men come forward to speak of the of the pain of abortion and its impact on their lives.
I am so grateful for people like Vicki Thorn and Vincent Rue and Dave Reardon, for being a voice for us when we were unable to speak out about abortions harm and for never giving up or giving in but faithfully proclaiming the truth. I am also very grateful to the Knights of Columbus for sponsoring this wonderful conference. I pray there will be many more…..
Greg HAsek of Mist Mt Counseling http://www.mistymtn.org/
and Vicki Thorn of The National Office of Reconciliation & Healing http://www.noparh.org/
who with the Knights sponsored the conference.
Keep you eyes on the Knights site…I am told an MP3 will be up with the talks and you will be able to listen for free. http://www.kofc.org/un/index.cfm
