A Happy and Blessed New
Year!
Most of you know, along
with Lumina, I also co-developed the post abortion ministry “Entering Canaan”
with the Sisters of Life. In the Sisters retreat house in Stamford, CT, where
we hold some of our retreats, there is a statute of Mary inside their front
door. She is sitting with both of her hands palms up, stretched before her in
her lap. To me she is coming before God with empty hands, awaiting His will and
direction for her. I love that statue. It is a constant reminder to me to stay
out of God’s way as He leads me in this post abortion
work.
Unlike Mary, I tend to get
caught up in the events of the day. It can lead me to distraction, and at times
discouragement and the false illusion that I can somehow rescue people. It is a
reminder that I need to possess empty hands in doing this work, so I do not find
my hands cluttered with many things I put in them following my own will instead
of His. It is in those times of emptiness that abundant graces flow through our
post abortive work. As Mother Teresa used to say, “stay out of Jesus’
way!”
And so it is with gratitude
to Him and His mercy, and the intercession of Mary, that I tell you about what
great things He has accomplished this past year with this little ministry!
