Ask (Lent- 9)
Jesus
said to his disciples:
"Ask and it will be given to you;
seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds;
and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
There
are a lot of people hurting from abortion in our country. I amazes me that
although we do next to no advertising, Lumina gets around 200 new people each
year. I know this is just the tip of the iceberg here in New York, sadly called the “abortion capital
of the world”.
Each
day I ask God for the healing of those He has entrusted to us, and those who
have not yet reached out for help. I know the all too well the desolation I
hear in the voice of someone reaching out for the first time thinking they are
alone.
My
heart especially breaks for those who are so young who have grown up in this
culture of death, some knowing no other option than abortion, believing it is
the answer to a pregnancy and that life will return to where it was before, if
only they abort the pregnancy.
Trouble
is, life never returns to where it was before. Being pregnant is life altering
and having an abortion is never a forgettable event.
In
today’s Gospel Jesus tells us to “ask and it will be given to you”. Let us join
our prayers together today to ask for an end to abortion and the devastation it
brings to the unborn, their mother & fathers and the countless others it
affects. Let us pray that many will come forward to embrace the mercy of God in
this Lenten season. He will not let us down.
