Short thoughts today…
"...we have
to do away with our own wills and give up our own visions of life
in order to open ourselves to everything that is God's will and His
vision of life."
(Open
Wide the Door to Christ, pg. 17)
Like the mother of the sons of Zebedee in today's Gospel, our human nature seeks its own desires.
Jesus tells her and us, how far from the truth these thoughts and desires of ours are.
"Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant;
whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave.
Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve
and to give his life as a ransom for many."
This is a paradox of our faith and also of our healing. The giving up of self and looking for honors, to serve others. The more we hang on to ourselves the more we struggle. The more we let go and trust the more we heal and are closer to Jesus who sacrificed all for us.
Today, make concerted efforts to throughout the day to give up your own visions for those of God.
