Last night I went to a talk by Fr John Bartunek. Father wrote the book "Inside the Passion",http://www.insidethepassion.com/passion/ a behind the scenes look at the movie "The Passion of Christ". Father accompanied Mel Gobson on the filming of the movie and offered many insightful looks into its creation as well as telling us of many "miracles" of God's mercy that took place during the filming for many who were working on it.
One thing he spoke about that struck me, probably because I often refer to it our post abortion ministry, is that despair is a work of our pride. when we despair we are not having hope in Gods mercy and we are denying the power of the cross and Gods great love for us.Of course, Father was referring to it in relation to Judas, but it can be applied to healing from abortion as well. Our clinging to unforgiveness, sometimes even after the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It is a refusal of the mercy God has given us. It is an act of "I know better than you do", and some ways perhaps the worst sin we can commit.
The next time you are feeling despair in relation to your post abortive healing, refuse to indulge, instead, make an act of Thanksgiving for the great love and mercy God has shown us.
