In today's reading we hear God telling Abraham that he will give his descendants "the whole land of Canaan as a permanent possession."
The story of the promised land has a special meaning to me because, that is of course, the name of the post abortion ministry I developed with the Sisters Life "Entering Canaan-a Sacramental Journey to an Inheritance of Mercy".
We had been praying for a name for the ministry…one day when I was before the Blessed Sacrament, not really thinking about it at all, I felt as though God told me we should name it "Entering Canaan."
I was a bit confused and really had no idea why He would want that name. Of course, I knew that the Israelites went to the promised land which was Canaan, but what did this have to do with post abortion healing?
when I got home that day I decided to read the story. As I read of their obstacles and the battles they faced, I recognized more and more the similarities of healing from abortion, which has many battles, both spiritual and emotional to be overcome, but perhaps the best part was finding that they came to the Promised land in the book of Joshua, the name I had given to my aborted son years before my own healing.
What a confirmation of God's will, and what a gift of grace…may each of your enter the promised land which is union with God, as He assists you on your journey to Him!
