Police have arrested a Richmond man they say tried to hire someone to kill his pregnant ex-girlfriend.
Raymond Martin Scott, 31, of the 2800 block of Sunora Court is charged with solicitation to kill a fetus.
Prosecutors say they plan to bring additional charges against Scott
before a grand jury, including a charge of soliciting the murder of the
28-year-old woman.
Officials say Scott gave another man a gun and offered him money to
kill the woman, who was eight months pregnant with Scott's child.
Police did not identify her.
The would-be hit man contacted police, who arrested Scott on Friday.
Officials credited Richmond police officer Donnell Patterson with
initiating the investigation.
"We definitely prevented a homicide from taking place here in the city," said Richmond police Maj. John Venuti.
Scott was arraigned yesterday in Richmond General District Court. Another hearing was set for Dec. 19.
He was jailed without bond. — Reed Williams
