The International Down Syndrome Coalition, one of our partners in SOS (Saving Our Sisters) has written a great response to Presidents Obama's Notre Dame Speech.
The Great Debate
Many
are aware of the recent event that took place at Notre Dame
University. The weeks leading up to it were filled with speculation
and conversation. Every person who has an opinion about abortion
weighed in. America started a conversation that is too important to
stop.
While the IDSC has concerns with many points in the speech, in which
we clearly disagree with the President, there was one statement made by
the President that we firmly agree with:
“Now, understand — understand, Class of 2009, I do not suggest that
the debate surrounding abortion can or should go away. Because no
matter how much we may want to fudge it — indeed, while we know that
the views of most Americans on the subject are complex and even
contradictory — the fact is that at some level, the views of the two
camps are irreconcilable. Each side will continue to make its case to the public with passion and conviction.”
