Mother of Woman Who Died in Legal Abortion Says Media Wrongly Focused on George
Tiller

Hyannis, MA (http://www.LifeNews.com) — The family of abortion practitioner
George Tiller knows the pain of losing a loved one related to abortion, but
Eileen Smith does as well. Smith’s daughter Laura Hope Smith was a victim of a
botched abortion in Massachusetts that ultimately claimed her life. The abortion
practitioner in the case has been charged with Laura’s death and is subject to a
civil lawsuit Eileen Smith filed. While the mainstream media has provided
nonstop coverage of the shooting death of Tiller, hardly any mainstream media
stories have appeared on Laura Smith’s botched abortion death other than in
local newspapers, and that concerns Smith. “Abortionist George Tiller’s death
brought an outpouring of national media headlines and Congressional condolences
to his family by a resolution approved by the U.S. House. Laura Hope Smith’s
death at the hands of an abortionist was and continues to be ignored,” Smith
told LifeNews.com. “Where was the press when my daughter Laura died at the hands
of an abortionist?” Smith’s recent search online for news stories related to her
daughter’s death finds most of them coming from LifeNews.com and other
alternative media sources. She indicated the only major media outlet to cover
Smith’s death was the Boston Globe, which didn’t include a news story in the
paper until 10 months after Laura died and only when the abortion practitioner
was indicted for manslaughter. Smith’s local newspaper, the Cape Cod Times,
waited six weeks before it ever printed a news story about the botched abortion.
Even then, the Times printed a different reason for Smith’s death other than the
abortion. “Since when has news been postponed in lieu of reporting facts, except
in the abortion deaths of the mothers?” asks Smith. “I have to believe that it
is only because the media’s bias toward abortion determines what makes news. “If
Laura had died falling off a bike or in a car accident, it would have been in
the paper the next day.”
