With abortion all over the news these days, between health care, the woman who had 16 in 15 years, and Mackenzie Phillips, it is hard to ignore all the judgment that is flying around. Some make it seem like it is no big deal killing 16 babies, others condemn to the extreme.
The truth is, only God can judge our actions in the light of complete truth. That does not go to say abortion is sometimes the right thing, taking a life is never right, but there are often circumstances surrounding the decision that put extra pressure or influence.
I heard Michelle Phillips say that no one should listen to Mackenzie because she has had a
needle up her arm" for over 30 years….perhaps, that is why she did the things she did…obviously an 11 year old should not be doing drugs and you have to wonder if they allowed that, why would it be so hard to believe her father sexually abused her? Not that she does not bear any responsibility for when she got older, but only GOD can judge where her head and heart were at. Again, that does not make what she did right, it only helps her to understand what happened so she can change.
In his section to those who have aborted in The Gospel of Life, Pope John Paul the II says: "I would now like to say a special word to women who
have had an abortion. The Church is aware of the many factors which may have
influenced your decision, and she does not doubt that in many cases it was a
painful and even shattering decision. The wound in your heart may not yet have
healed. Certainly what happened was and remains terribly wrong. But do not give
in to discouragement and do not lose hope. Try rather to understand what
happened and face it honestly. If you have not already done so, give yourselves
over with humility and trust to repentance. The Father of mercies is ready to
give you his forgiveness and his peace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. To
the same Father and his mercy you can with sure hope entrust your child. With
the friendly and expert help and advice of other people, and as a result of
your own painful experience, you can be among the most eloquent defenders of
everyone's right to life. Through your commitment to life, whether by accepting
the birth of other children or by welcoming and caring for those most in need
of someone to be close to them, you will become promoters of a new way of
looking at human life."
so, look at your abortion honestly so you can understand what happened, turn yourself over to God and those who can help you work through it, and don't worry about what others are saying, we all are in need of Gods mercy! even them!
