I thought this sub title from the Washington post article on the mother who had 15 abortions was pretty appropriate. It is not uncommon that the birth of another child brings people to look at previous abortions. This woman shows many classic symptoms of post abortive trauma, especially multiple abortions, and although I am sure it was not her intent, she actually validates much of what the post abortion community and research places like the Elliot Institute http://www.afterabortion.org/ have been saying for years. She is just getting more attention because of the sensationalism of the number of her abortions.

"Yet, in Vilar's deft hands, her story of serial abortions mostly
bypasses the volatile abortion rights standoff, instead plumbing her
"self-mutilation," her "pregnancy fantasies" and multiple suicide
attempts
, her conflicts over submission and control, and, ultimately,
her healing. She wants to steer readers to a subtler point: that
abortion was, for her, an addiction, a warped and tragic vehicle to
assert control over her life. "

and of course, her attempt at atonement babies, only to find herself in the same situation over and over again: "Not long after their first sexual encounter, Vilar becomes pregnant and
schedules her first abortion. Over the next 15 years, she seesaws
between taking birth-control pills and "forgetting" to take them"

"She's unabashedly supportive of abortion rights, but says her addiction
to the cycle of pregnancy and abortion meant that she wasn't really
choosing to end her pregnancies."

Vilar says she is afraid for her safety, but continues to give interviews and seek publicity. You cannot help but wonder what she is trying to accomplish with this book…contrary to what she says, I think Vilar is a long way from healed. Pray for her….
