It seems that God, granting you difficult graces, is forcing His gifts into your
hands, but you resist and do not want to accept them. Yet, difficult
graces are the most valuable talents of your life. Sometimes there are
many of them because God wants you to have enough talents to make use of."
(The
Gift of Faith, pg. 30)
Just reading this made me want to cringe. Who wants life to be difficult? Our natural response would be to run the other way or to find a solution in order to make things easier.Or at least that is MY natural response, especially if something is difficult for a long time.
Healing from abortion can be like that. Sometimes it seems like the pain will never go away and we get weary from the quest to heal. We take a step forward and then something can happen and we can begin feeling like we are starting all over again, but we are not. We just getting practice in changing the way we think and act. Like dealing with our abortion connectors…once we ID them, the next time they come up they may still hurt, but the awareness makes it easier to deal with until finally, we can just acknowledge them and move on.
Yes, difficult graces make us grow whether they are graces for one day or a prolonged time. They may not be pleasant, but we must trust God is working in our lives plucking out the weeds of shame, anxiety, fear etc etc, one by one to bring us to wholeness and healing.
