Today's gospel tells us of the apostles being tossed about on the waves and then seeing Jesus walking on the water. "They had all seen him and were terrified. But at once he spoke with them,“Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid!”
It is difficult not to be afraid when we sense our security is threatened. Our immediate impluse, no matter how "faithful" we think we are, is to cling to the familiar. To resist change even if what is is not the best for us.
So it often is with post abortion healing, both in relation to relationships and our personal experiences…we tend to become comfortable even with unhealthy behaviors and often cling to them even in the face of their negative consequences.
Jesus tells us to "not be afraid". To trust and see that He is always with us, leading us no matter how we "feel", and in His love for us we can always rely on Him to do the best for us.
It is not easy, no matter how much faith I profess to have, when I am being tossed about it is still hard to trust,to believe, even though I know all He has done for me. Let us pray daily for the courage and strength to follow God knowing He has only our best interest at heart and that He will surely bring about that which is best for us.
