The courage to chose life

I was just thinking how difficult it is for those suffering from abortion to hear all the news about the Tebow ad and how his mom was courageous in choosing life.

While the ad celebrates her choice, and Tim's life, it, I am sure, leaves many who are post abortive and in despair, feeling even worse about the decision they made. "Do not give in to discouragement and do not loose hope!" (The Gospel of Life)

In thinking about this in relation to my own abortion, I have to admit, I aborted out of fear. A fear that arose from what I saw as self survival. I just was not strong enough to say no and bring my son to life.

In the "Gospel of Life", Pope John Paul II tells us to " Try rather to understand what
happened and face it honestly.
" If I do that,I have to admit, it is true, I was not courageous. I can wish that I was, but that is not who I was then. I just did not have the faith or the strength to chose life. I admit it.

In admitting my failing and where I was at at the time, I can forgive myself and also recognize I was not the only factor in the choice. This is not to judge anyone else, but to "understand" what happened.

As Dave Reardon's book, "The Jericho Plan", http://www.afterabortion.org/jericho/index.htm quotes Fredericka Mathewes Green, of 'Feminist for Life"; http://www.feministsforlife.org/ "No woman wants an abortion, as she wants an ice cream cone or a Porche. She wants an abortion as an animal caught in a trap want to gnaw off it s own leg." How true.

I pray this as brings women who are fearful and facing a difficult pregnancy the courage they need to move past their fear and say yes to the life within them.

I wish I had had that courage, but I did not, and I have forgiven myself for it, as I know both God and my unborn son have forgiven me. I am happy I now have the courage to look at it honestly and speak out about the horror of abortion. I pray that this ad stops others from a decision that will impact them for the rest of their lives and rob the world of who knows what that unborn child would have become.

So, if you are feeling down because of the ad, look at it in another way and have it be the motivation you need to get the help you need to heal…it is possible. I know because I have been there.
