When we look at teen pregnancies we find that there’s no
real difference between red and blue states and in fact the top two
states for teen pregnancy went to the Democrats in 2008.

It’s pretty clear here that abortion plays a huge role in reducing
the number of teens giving birth in liberal states while in more
conservative  states teens are much more likely to have the child. It
would be interesting to also compare adoption rates by state as
ancillary data to teen births though I suspect it’s hard to draw
conclusions. My anecdotal observations are that when teens give births
in red states their extended families usually help out in some way and
encourage them to keep the child.
