Reclaiming Our Children: A Blog About Healing After Abortion

I have to wonder, what the heck has become of us? I was horrified to read this morning abut a 13 year old Poconos girl who was impregnated by a 30 year old man and then performed an abortion on herself by using a pencil! http://www.mcall.com/news/local/police/mc-poconos-girl-abortion-20100607,0,4296770.story

As if that were not bad enough, I also saw the story on the blog for Feministe. http://www.feministe.us/blog/archives/2010/06/07/girl-hospitalized-after-self-inducing-abortion/

I wonder sometimes why what I read still shocks me having done this work for over 20 years, but I guess I still hold on to the hope that it cannot be possible people really feel the way they do. They must be uneducated, right? How could they possible think this way?

And yet they do…here is one of the  comments on the Feministe blog concerning the 13 year old:

"This poor child has been violated in the most egregious way. Imagine
the horror of finding yourself pregnant and with no access to abortion
services as a result of such horrific abuse."

Once again, access to abortion services trumps everything. Of course, they are blaming this on Parental Consent laws…as if that would mean she was not raped…or as if that means the trauma of abortion would not be with her…would it would mean, is she would have been able to go to a clinic and have an abortion. Most likely, if that were the case, this 30 year who raped her would have gotten away with it since most times they are not reported…

I am praying for this girl and I am so glad her "boyfriend" got caught and hopefully will go to jail where he belongs…one dead, one wounded….
