Letter to Dr Davis

Re:
"The
Myth of "Abortion Trauma Syndrome"

 Dear Dr.
Davis:

 I
recently read your article “The Myth of Abortion Trauma Syndrome”, on RH
Reality Check. As a post abortive woman who has been working with other post
abortive women for over twenty years, I found your article insensitive and an insult
to all those who have suffered from a past abortion.

 Regardless
of whether there were pre existing factors for some, abortion has caused great
pain and suffering to countless women, and your nonchalant attitude and lack of
compassion is appalling, especially as a health care professional.

 Perhaps
Dr Davis, you should speak to some of the women I know who have spent years in
and out of psychiatric facilities with doctors denying their pain and grief.
Perhaps you should hear their stories of breakdowns, suicidal attempts and the
denial of people such as yourself of the very real trauma their abortions
caused them.  The good news is when they
finally found help they were able to find joy in their lives again.

 Your
article not only denies the truth of
their experiences, it also sends a message to those who may still be suffering
in silence that their feelings are not recognized or legitimate and so sends
them further into despair. It is beyond despicable to claim as you do, that
abortion trauma is a myth.

 Luckily,
your words are meaning less and less as more and more of us who have
experienced abortion and its negative impact are speaking out. Our numbers grow
every day and you cannot tell us our truth.
You may deny our feelings and choose to call us anti abortion instead of what
we are, women who have had abortions, but the truth
is spreading and more and more women are coming forward because they know what
we are saying is true. Women are learning because of personal experience about
the lies of abortion.

 You
state depression from abortion is not a disease, just a feeling. Tell that to
the women who are unable to function, or face life, and as far as the American
Psychiatric Association goes, it is no secret that many on the board hold pro
abortion views.

 If ever
you care to really know the truth
and truly care about all women, I would be happy to meet with you as I am sure
some of the women I know would. In the meantime do not speak for all of us; we
are perfectly capable of speaking for ourselves. We are, reaching out to the
countless others who have had similar experiences letting them know that in
spite of what people like you say, their feelings are legitimate and there is
healing from the mental anguish of abortion.

 Sincerely,

 Theresa
