DC Symposium & Webinar

I just returned from Washington, DC,  where I was blessed to participate on a panel at
the  Affirming Life Symposium at Catholic
University sponsored by The Archdiocese of Washington Department of Special
Needs Ministries & Department of Life Issues.  The Symposium followed a Webinar sponsored by
the National Catholic Partnership on Disability and focused on Poor Prenatal
Diagnosis of Lethal
or Non-lethal Conditions & Disability. It was viewed by 250 different
locations across the nationally and internationally.

I for one am so happy to see this type of
event. It is no secret that 90-94% of adverse diagnosis are aborted, many due
to misinformation and lack of support and tremendous pressures by the medical community.
One has only to look in the paper to find, almost on a daily basis, the impact of
the disregard for life that society sees as
imperfect.

Whether it is the couple who urged their
surrogate top abort after an adverse diagnosis,  http://www.nationalpost.com/news/Couple+urged+surrogate+abort+fetus+defect/3628756/story.html,
the British television pundit Virginia Ironside who said she would suffocate a
child to end its suffering,

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1317400/Virginia-Ironside-sparks-BBC-outrage-Id-suffocate-child-end-suffering.html,
or the countless parents pressured by the medical profession to abort, it is
clear a child that is anything bu t”perfect” lives against the odds.

On
my way home I truly felt I had met many heroes, and although I cannot name them
all, I will point out a few, like Monica Rafie, Founder of Be Not Afraid, http://benotafraid.net/, and parent of a
child surviving a poor prenatal diagnosis, Tracy Windsor,  Parent Support Specialist,
Dr. John Bruchalski, OB/GYN Tepeyac
Family Care Center, http://tepeyacfamilycenter.com/,
Dan and Chubby LaHoode as well as Nancy Mayer-Whittington, founders of Isaiahs
Promise, http://isaiahspromise.net/ ,
the wonderful clergy who spoke and all the other I met ministering in this
field.

The
webinar will be available on the web site of National Catholic Partnership on
Disability for viewing www.ncopd.org. I pray
you will take the time to watch it, it will be well worth it .
