Last night I participated in the webcam "Unplanned" with David Bereit, of 40 Days for Life, with Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood director whose book "Unplanned" is released today.
I have a copy ordered and hope to get it in the next day or two. In it , Abby speaks of her conversion, her own two abortions and her experience working as director of a Planned Parenthood, even earning an "Employee of the Year" award.
Of course for me the most interesting, although not surprising part was hearing her speak of her two abortions and how she had believed abortion was a "normal medical procedure". She also shared how she justified what she had done and felt that by working at the clinic it made the abortions okay.
Her conversion came when she actually assisted with an abortion in the clinic and saw the unborn baby try to get away from the instruments that would take its life. I look forward to reading her conversion of heart, especially in relation to her going to Shawn Carney who she had known from his praying outside of her clinic.
I believe there are countless women out there justifying their abortions. The evidence is in reading their own testimonies in places like "I'm Not Sorry" or even in the recent MTV program "No Easy Decision", of which I wrote an article here: http://www.catholic.org/ae/tv/review.php?id=39866
I touched on this a little in a previous post, "I'm Not Sorry-Yet".
Let's all keep Abby and her family in our prayers, that God may guide, protect and heal her. That she is never exploited but keeps safely in the arms of the Lord who is Mercy Himself.
Many blessings Abby!
