I sometimes struggle about whether I should even take the time to write about this stuff but I have to admit sometimes it just gets to me and I have to vent. What an injustice to women!
An interesting call for writers over at RHReality Check:
We are looking for a diversity of voices to help shine a new light on stigma in this context. Where in your life or work have you witnessed or experienced stigma around reproductive health and sexuality?
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
- Personal stories of sexual and reproductive health choices in light of stigma
- Policy analyses of the domestic or global legislation of stigma
- Accounts of stigma “success stories” or transformations of attitudes
- Consideration of how stigma is used to oppress and control women
- Examination of ways in which stigma persists within the pro-choice movement
While all related topics will be considered, special consideration will be given to articles on abortion stigma, an issue that has received little global attention from the global research, media, and advocacy communities in the past.
Does anyone else see the same tactics used for other agendas? How dare anyone see abortion etc with a stigma..what is wrong with us? By destigmatizing they think it will suddenly become ok…lets try to pressure people to accept abortion etc like we do everything else. Lets shame them into thinking it is ok, forgetting about shame relating to the death of your child!
Not that they would print it, but it would be great to have everyone over at SNM write about why they felt stigma. Hey, maybe it is actually because what we did was wrong in killing our unborn children! Bet they never considered that….I particularly like this one "Consideration of how stigma is used to oppress and control women". So, not believing abortion is ok is using a stigma to control women? PLEEEZE! Why do they always make us sound so dumb while claiming we are intelligent enough to make our own decisions?
Try as they may, I choose to believe this one won't fly, but it will be interesting to see what people write. The saddest part is they are the ones destroying the dignity of everything it means to be a woman and one day it will come back to bite them…
