Fishing for men

The Demons Knew Who Christ Was

"We cannot comprehend who God is, we cannot believe in His greatness and His love for us if we first do not uncover the truth about ourselves."

(The Gift of Faith, pg. 82)

Last night with Fr Mariusz Koch, CFR, we were blessed to do a post abortion training at St Joseph's Seminary for 35 men. It aways leaves me so hopeful to know that in a few years these guys will be out there bringing God's mercy and forgiveness to those suffering because of a past abortion.

One of the things we spoke about is how most people who are post abortive cannot look at the truth of their abortion without first knowing the mercy and love of God. When I received the quote above this morning in my email box, it just fit in so perfectly with everything we spoke about last night.

We all want to think we are "good people". We do not want to see the ways we sin, the ways in which we fail, it is often too painful, but if we are never willing to do that, then Christ cannot enter in to heal us. How can He if we deny our weaknesses and our need for His healing?

There is a freedom is admitting our wrongs. In being able to forgive ourselves for our shortcoming and move on, hopfully doing better. But even if we continue to fall God has given us the wonderful sacrament of Reconciliation where we can be forgiven again, and and again, trying to amend the things we fail at.

Many people do not understand the Catholic faith, but I know, I for one am so grateful for it. Rather than bind us as those out there like to make it seem, it truly frees us from harm and continually gives us new beginnings. Knowing we can do nothing without His grace which strengthens us and brings us His peace.

Pray for all seminarians as they become fishers of men…God knows there are many fish in the ocean to catch and bring to the heart of Jesus.
