Dr. Mary Norton, a Stanford University professor of obstetrics and gynecology clarifies : "A diagnosis before birth can pose a difficult challenge for couples as they decide whether to continue the pregnancy. It's not only about child-rearing, but also about what happens as the child grows into an older adult and may need care that the aging parents struggle to provide."
That whole statement in this article about the new blood test to diagnose Down Syndrome early in pregnancy, is so wrong and just a sample of the guilt often laid on parents who may receive an adverse diagnosis. Whether it be from the medical community or others, it is no secret that what some consider a less than perfect life is very often the catalyst for major pressures to abort.
With the new blood test to scheduled to begin in April of 2012, it scares me to think of this search and destroy mentality, and all the parents who will be pressured to terminate thier pregnanices…let's spread the word and hope they learn about "Be Not Afraid" a support site for couples who have received an adverse diagnosis and where they can receive the knwoledge an dhelp they need to love their children.
