Misery & Destruction

"It won’t be until over a decade later, when I am well into the actual world of parenthood, frazzled and overwhelmed with love and impatience for the tiny creature I have created, that I will realize that if I had actually had a baby at age nineteen it might have been the very thing that would have kept me from the years and years of misery and destruction ahead of me."

Really great, honest article on abortion over at Salon.

Although she  does not go into the "years and years of misery and destruction", I know there are countless numbers of us that know exactly what she is speaking of without her saying a word.

Claire Bidwell Smith, is a grief therapist and author of "The Rules of Inheritance", where the article mentioned above was excerpted from.

Claire shares that her own abortion made her feel closer to her mom, who died from cancer when she was just 19. Her mom had admitted to her, that when she was thirty,  she had an abortion, although it seems Claire never really knew how it had impacted her life.

I can understand how this knowledge would make her feel closer to her mom..shared grief, shared loss, I know how helpful it was to meet other post abortive women who knew my pain, but if I had to place a bet, I would also say, I am sure her mom felt that same "misery and destruction" ,and if she could have  spared her daughter that misery and destruction, she would have.

I plan on ordering her book…I admire her honesty and pray if she has not done so already, she finds healing.

Thank you Claire…
