"In one's gradual discovery of the difficult truth about himself, one can see God's great gentleness and love for the soul that could otherwise become terrified and rebel. God trusts that we will not run away from this light, but rather accept it as a gift. This gift is difficult to receive, but God must give such a gift in order to rescue the beloved soul from the unconscious lie in which it is living." (Behold I Stand at the Door and Knock, pg. 42)
The above quote reminded me so much of healing from abortion. How many of us lived in that "unconscious" lie for years after our abortions? How many are currently living in it? It is so hard to look at abortion unless you know the love of God. That, I believe, is where people despair…we cannot look until we know God's great love for us no matter what. It is that love that allows us to look, and change, and forgive, and move past what we have done. we will never forget, and who would want to? Those are our children, but we can live in peace. Of course, we need to learn all the psycological aspects of healing as well. Abortions dynamics, abortion connectors etc, but we gather our strength from the fact that we are loved, so that we are not venturing into the darkness of abortion without support and the armor of God.
When we do finally see who we are, we see our sin, but we also see the many outside influences which contributed to our abortions, and most importantly we see God's love for us. This of course does not make the abortion right, but it helps us to understand what happened so that we can forgive others, ourselves and move on.
May the Divine Light continue to shine on each of us, secure in His love so that we may grow closer to Him each day! |
