Reclaiming Our Children: A Blog About Healing After Abortion

'That is what a man does, he protects his loved ones".

 So said David Jackson, stepfather of  27 yo Matt McQuinn, when he learned Matt had been killed protecting his girlfriend during the Colorado massacre.

Such simple words, but words that totally describe a real man. I do not want to politicize the massacre. It is heart wrenching and my heart goes out to all those who it has touched, especially the families of those who were injured or killed.

 For some reason however, those words spoken by David Jackson will not leave my mind. I just cannot stop thinking about then. They are so true.

I guess part of the reason is because I am so aware that abortion calls men to the total opposite and also takes away our true identity as moms. It betrays who we are and were meant to be as members of our sex. Instead of nuturing and protecting, abortion turns men and women into the very ones who massacre their unborn.

Sometimes, I just do not get how we did not see it coming. How we allowed ourselves to become so self centered and important that the act of taking the life of our offspring is something people are seeking to destigmatize. Something some even say is an act of love. Would we consider it an act of love to kill living children, of course not.

 There is a beauty to be found in the Colorado massacre. Of course, it is not in the deaths of the victims, but in the self giving love so evident in so many of them. A love that protects and nutures. A love that is real and true. A love seeking other, instead of self.

 These people have touched my heart and countless others. Like David Jackson, I am so proud of the men they were, because 'That is what a man does, he protects his loved ones".

May their families find comfort in their sacrifice and the people they were. May they rest in peace and enjoy their everlasting reward.
