The sainthood of Dorothy Day is being considered by the Bishops…Cardinal O'Connor began this many years ago. For those of you who are not familiar with Dorothy Day, head of The Catholic Workers, she was post abortive.
This is something that the Cardinal wrote about her:
"To be sure, her life is a model for all in the third millenium, but
especially for women who have had or are considering abortions. It is a
well-known fact that Dorothy Day procured an abortion before her
conversion to the Faith. She regretted it every day of her life. After
her conversion from a life akin to that of the pre-converted Augustine
of Hippo, she proved a stout defender of human life. The conversion of
mind and heart that she exemplified speaks volumes to all women today on
two fronts. First, it demonstrates the mercy of God, mercy in that a
woman who sinned so gravely could find such unity with God upon
conversion. Second, it demonstrates that one may turn from the ultimate
act of violence against innocent life in the womb to a position of
total holiness and pacifism. In short, I contend that her abortion
should not preclude her cause, but intensifies it."
I am including a link to Cardinal O'Connors thoughts after the bishops article. For those of us who have been healed by the mercy of God, we know exactly what he is spekaing about when he says her abortion should intensify her cause…

The U.S. bishops will vote this week on advancing the cause for the
canonization of Dorothy Day, a 20th century Catholic social activist and
tireless advocate for the poor.
The move is being sought by Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, Archbishop of
New York, as his archdiocese was Day's home from 1916 until her death in
1980.
Ecclesiastical law requires that the bishop pursuing a canonization
consult with his regional bishops' conference on whether or not the
cause is prudent. Cardinal Dolan is asking for the consultation during
the U.S. bishops' general assembly being held Nov. 12-15 in Baltimore.
In 2000, Cardinal John J. O'Connor, then-archbishop of New York,
submitted Day's cause for The rest is here:
