Reclaiming Our Children: A Blog About Healing After Abortion

No big surprise that I never heard from the NYT in regards to printing my letter in response to their article about Dorothy Day...it really is amazing how biased they are.Anyway may as well post it here:)

To the Editor:

I was sad to read in your November 26th article, "In Hero of the Catholic Left, a Conservative Cardinal sees a Saint", that Martha Hennessy, grandaughter of Dorothy Day fails to see how her grandmothers abortion played a part in her conversion.
 
Ask anyone who has experienced an abortion and then found the forgiveness and mercy of God and they would tell you that He used this terrible event to bring them back to Himself and the church.  Although the secular world would like people to believe the church instills guilt and shame, it is the abortion itself which instills the guilt and shame. It is not normal for a mother to take th elife of her child. The church, in fact, brings us to healing and wholeness.
 
In the time Dorothy lived no one really spoke openly about abortion. I am sure she felt, as many women  still do today, that she had no right to speak about aboriton because she herself had one, but she was wrong. Who better to speak for the unborn than those who have lost a child to abortion?
 
Thank goodness we are realizing this and more and more of us who are [post abortive are speaking out on behalf of our lost children. I have no doubt that Dorothy's abortion was a major catylst in her conversion because I have seen it thousands of times in the work I do.
 
For the record, there are not "left" or "right" saints in the Catholic Church, only people who have tried to live the one truth, the will of God for them in this life. CArdinal Dolan sees that Dorothy truly did that.
