Just back from a week out so I will need to do some catching up..in themeantime I will post some past articles etc.
The Tracks of My Tears
Some of you may remember an
old Smokey Robinson song titled “The Tracks of My Tears”. Its lyrics go like
this:
People say I'm the life of the party
'Cause I tell a joke or two
Although I might be laughing loud and hearty
Deep inside I'm blue
So take a good look at my face
You know my smile looks out of place
If you look closer it's easy to trace
The tracks of my tears
As someone who
had an abortion over thirty years ago I remember how the words of this song
expressed the feelings I was having and the deep pain inside that I hide from
the rest of the world. On the outside, it may have looked like I was “the life
of the party”, but ”deep inside” I was more than blue. I was suffering with
suicidal ideation, depression and self loathing.
These days the
song may not be popular, but the feelings expressed by it’s lyrics are still
felt by countless men and women suffering from a past abortion. The shame
associated with abortion keeps many women and men hiding the” tracks of their
tears” for fear someone will find out they have participated in the death of
their child.
We
cross generations mourning the loss and celebrating the healing. We also give
thanks for humility, courage and grace int those sharing their stories.
We are excited
about the coming year and the opportunities that we will have to reach those
still suffering in silence. Do you know someone who may be suffering from an
abortion? We challenge you to “look closer” and trace the tracks of their tears
in order to offer them the help they need to heal!
