It was a very beautiful “Afternoon of Prayer Remembrance” at St. Mary’s in Kingston, New York on Saturday, January 11th. During the service, we heard witnesses, adored the Lord, and participated in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
I so wish I had a tape recorder for the talks Father Larry gave, which were both so very beautiful and really spoke to the heart of God’s mercy for us.
One talk was on the parable of the prodigal son, and the point he made so beautifully, and that I pray everyone healing from abortion could hear, was that when the son who was out squandering his wealth returned, his father did not point out what he had done – but instead, put shoes on his feet and gave him new clothes to wear. Father Larry asked us how the father would have felt if his son refused the cloak and shoes and just kept saying he was undeserving and what a sinner he was. No, the father did not want that! Instead he wanted to give his son new clothes and wanted him to accept them. He did not want him to spend his life beating himself up for his mistakes. He wanted him to move forward. He wanted him to receive his dignity as a person back. This is the same thing God wants for us!
People who have had an abortion often continue to beat themselves up, but that is actually a sin of pride, of refusing God’s mercy.

Father Larry then proceeded to speak about the second son, and how the father had to go to him to ask him to forgive his brother and treat him with mercy and not throw his sins up into his face.
Father’s second talk was on Matthew the tax collector, and how Jesus chose him. Matthew was agreat sinner with no spiritual life and he was chosen to become an apostle. Matthew had a great conversion and spent his life serving God. Matthews failing became the means for conversion and he then used his life to bring others into the fold.
It truly was a grace filled, wonderful afternoon. Many thanks to Father Larry, Kathy Ambrose, and all our volunteers who read the witnesses. But most of all, thank you to Jesus, our merciful healer.
