Jesus saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the customs post.
He said to him, “Follow me.”
And leaving everything behind, he got up and followed him.
Then Levi gave a great banquet for him in his house,
and a large crowd of tax collectors
and others were at table with them.
The Pharisees and their scribes complained to his disciples, saying,
“Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”
Jesus said to them in reply,
“Those who are healthy do not need a physician, but the sick do.
I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners.”

I have always found this Gospel comforting, especially when I first returned to the church after my abortion. Jesus came to call me! He wanted me! He reached out to my isolation and despair and invited me to Him. Hard to believe but at the same time it touched me.

Still to this day, there are those who like to proclaim we are murderers, who want to drive us out because of our sin, but Jesus wants to call us in because of our sin! He wants to love us back to Him so that we may learn to love as He does.

Thank you Jesus for being our Divine Physician, for coming to heal our wounds and to teach us the way to eternal life.

Amen
