"If so, then acknowledge that you are who is not. Contritely acknowledge your evil and be grateful for every grace that you experience. Then God will be able to pour out the most priceless of His gifts through you."
(The Two Pillars, pg.85)
Sometimes I feel (and I believe it to be true in some circumstances) that those of us who have had an abortion are looked upon as the “greatest sinners." People who think they are doing good make a point to tell us that God is even there for the “greatest sinners," us, or can forgive us as if they themselves never had a grave sin.
Are we the greatest sinner? Yes, and no one knows that more than us. Most of us have spent great lengths of time beating ourselves up and feeling condemned to a life of eternal torture. No one can hate us more than we have hated ourselves.
But, we have a God whose mercy is greater than any sin we can commit and this mercy is waiting for us, all we need to do is accept it. Personally, I am grateful to have this knowledge. It is a constant reminder of my dependence on Him.
I know the great mercy and forgiveness of God, and I know it is waiting there for each postabortive person who seeks it, no matter how terrible they believe their abortions to be. So, the next time you feel as though someone is pointing to us, acknowledge your sin, and then immerse yourself in His mercy where He will show you His great love and forgiveness.
