Alone with Jesus

You'd think that with all I have known Jesus has done for me, I would not be so disappointed or resistant when God's will is not my own!

Unfortunately, I have not yet died to my all too human nature and so after six days of tempatures over 102 degrees, I  was still upset to be banished to bed for at least 5 days. In my state of mind, it took me a few moments to realize this meant I would miss the services of the Triduum.

No Holy Thursday Mass of the Last Supper, or time with Jesus in the garden.

No joining the CFR's in my favorite Procession of the Stations of the Cross through NYC on Good Friday, or the service following at St. Crispins.

No Easter Vigil or public participation in any of our very beautiful Triduum litguries. What a bummer! This too you want me to sacrifice God?

So, I thought, what could I do alone in my room to participate in these holiest of days? Then it came to me…submit to His most holy will! Accompany Him alone in His agony, death, and resurrection. Just Him and me in a very intimate way.

Isn't it funny that as resistant as we may be – we can come to see something we did not want as truly a great gift and blessing. Instead of watching from outside the gate, I feel as though He has invited me in, an accompaniment to Calvary, there to die to self with Mercy Himself who chose this year, for me to come a little closer to the heart of His suffering. I look forward to it…
