Reclaiming Our Children: A Blog About Healing After Abortion

I lifted this quote from a 2001 Divine Mercy homily I posted a few days ago by our new saint, John Paul II.

I just keep contemplating that statement "a simple act of abandonment"  can overcome the barriers of darkness and sorrow, of doubt and desperation! It is so true, yet we make it all so complicated! All we need to do is let go and abandon ourselves to God and His Divine Mercy, but that is anything but simple for those who have participated in abortion, a sin that without a doubt overwhelms!

We badger ourselves either trying to find a reason as to how we could have done such a thing, or in our self importance, look to find some way to justify what we have done. In the end neither of these work or do anything to advance our healing.

St John Paul II tells us the answer is "simple". In humility we need to look at ourselves in truth . We need to contemplate the wounds of Christ and allow the rays of His mercy into our souls. Instead of putting up blocks,looking for excuses not to forgive ourselves ot yo excuse ourselves, we need to surrender, so that our burden of the sin of abortion becomes a gateway to Him, instead of away from Him. We need to kick ourselves out of His way.

As we begin the month of May, may we look to our Blessed Mother, under the title of Our Lady  of Czestochowa, to teach us true humility and to  guide us to the heart of her Son.

May we listen to the words of Pope Francis in his homily at the canonization of Popes John Paul II & John XXIII, Divine Mercy Sunday, "In these two men, who looked upon the wounds of Christ and bore witness to his mercy, there dwelt a living hope and an indescribable and glorious joy (1 Pet 1:3,8). "

A living hope and a indescribable  and glorious joy waiting for each one of us!
