Shrine of Holy Innocents NYC

I was very sad to hear that Holy Innocents Parish in NYC will probably be closing its doors. Holy Innocents has a very special significance to many moms and dads who are post abortive, because it houses a Shrine to the Holy Innocents, dedicated in "Memory of the Children Who Have Died Unborn," and has the "Book of Life" where the name of your child can be inscribed.

I can still remember the day that John Cardinal O'Connor blessed that Shrine, and the feeling I had as I requested my son Joshua's name be placed in the book. It was one of the first places that publically acknowledged our children.

Since then, countless others names of unborn babies from parents across the country and the world have been added to that book.

Many from our  "Entering Canaan" ministry had their childrens names inscribed, and visit the Shrine often.  It has become a place to mourn and remember in the absence of a grave site.

I do not know if the book will be moved to the church that Holy Innocents will be consolidated with, I hope so, but it will not be the same. For some it may even be a huge abortion connector, another loss of their child, yet we need to always remember our children are "living in the Lord" and that is where we will truly meet them.
