The Weak Things

But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty” (1 Corinthians 1:27)

  Question

I was just down in Charleston, South Carolina recently, doing a workshop on “Abortion’s Impact on Couples” for the USCCB’s Pro Life Leadership Conference.  As I was speaking to the Sisters of Life in the lobby where our buffet breakfast was offered the morning of my workshop, one of the sisters asked the other if they were going to eat meat. I asked, “Is it Friday?”, and quickly said, “No, it’s Thursday,” at which time one of the Sisters told me, “No, it’s Wednesday!”, and we all began to laugh.  Not a great confidence booster to not even know which day it is when you are about to do a presentation!

It is not the first time, nor will it be the last, when I am reminded of my humanness right before a talk or training. I believe it is God’s way of reminding me exactly who I am and who is really doing the work He asks of me.

I don’t mind. In fact, I am grateful for it. There is something to be said for knowing full well your weaknesses and asking to be kicked out of His way before you present. So far, in all my years of doing this work, He has been very happy to oblige, and things have gone well.

It was no different in South Carolina. Despite my scattered mind, the workshop went very well. When I present, I prepare and then I place my  confidence in Him not me.

Good thing because without Him,I do not even know what day it is!
