I learned of the passing of Father Benedict last night, on the eve of the Feast of St Francis. I have lots of thoughts and feelings going around in my head for this wonderful priest. I was blessed to have known him for years, and prayed in front of many a clinic with Father since the 80's. He was always so supportive of our post abortive work, taking the time to come to many things in order to support us. I cannot even begin to fathom the number of souls he has touched deeply, including mine.
I immediately thought of how many times I heard Father Benedict say to be sure to pray for him when he died. He feared that people would think he went straight to heaven (many are saying it already and would not pray, causing him longer time in purgatory! In his humor, he would tell us if we did that, he would come back to haunt us 🙂
I am going to leave it there and let the statement from his dear community of friars to say what we are feeling better than any of us.
Rest in peace Father and be assured of my prayers. We love you!
