Forgiveness

Forgiveness"For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." (Matthew 6:14,15)

It is so hard to forgive when we have been hurt deeply. What's even worse is when we try to move past it, and continue the relationship only to be hurt deeply over and over and over again. We sometimes just do not want to believe a person could do this to us because we care for them and thought they felt the same.

How can you forgive, when people have no regard for your feelings, or use you, or by their actions degrade your dignity as a person, or try to crush your spirit?  In fact, it can feel impossible to forgive and by our own strength it very well may be!

That is why we must ask Jesus to help us. We must ask Him to give us the grace not to become bitter, resentful, and angry. We must ask for the grace to choose to forgive because we choose to live a life with Christ. We cannot do it alone, but only through His assistance, sometimes choosing forgiveness over and over and over again with the same person.

This does not mean we need to continue relationship with that person, but we do need to keep forgiving in spite of what we may be feeling.

Lord, help us to forgive. Give us your grace that we may be who you want us to be. Help us to put aside our feelings and choose you knowing you see all things.

Jesus said," Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing…" (Luke 23:34).

May we say the same and may others forgive us our faults as we have them.
