I believe in the mercy of God. It is there for each one of us as He draws us to Himself. This mercy is not contingent on what we may do, we cannot earn it, is waiting there for us, born on the cross of Jesus Christ who longs for us to accept it. He has given it freely.
I will forever have ingrained on my heart my personal encounter with mercy, as I sat on my bathroom floor many years ago, and pleaded with God for my healing from abortion. It is there in that tiny room that I was personally touched by the power of the cross. The joining of my suffering with His immense love and mercy which melted away my years of torment and freed me from the bondage of my sin of abortion.
Through this experience I have been able, in some small way, to light the path of healing for many through the “Entering Canaan” ministry, which I co-developed with The Sisters of Life. Since the beginnings of this ministry over 20 years ago, I have expanded the original works by developing Mercy and Special Advent & Lenten Retreats, as well as, retreats for men, siblings, and adverse diagnosis abortions, with the help of Fr. Mariusz Koch, CFR, and wonderful people from the ministry. It has been humbling and a tremendous gift to stand at the foot of the cross with countless souls, as they too encounter the mercy of God.
This past weekend, I, along with Fr. Fidelis Monscinski, CFR, and a sibling who has worked with us in our retreat days for siblings over the past 5 years, were blessed to have our first Entering Canaan sibling retreat weekend hosted by Lumina/Hope & Healing After Abortion.
The complexities surrounding the issue of the impact of abortion on siblings is great. So many questions, so many feelings, so confusing, but even greater than this is the mercy of God which can unravel any conflicts and bring healing. Through conferences addressing these issues based on biblical readings and grounded in the sacraments, those attending were able to share their experiences and unite with one another and most importantly, with God.
We were so very blessed to have been able to have this retreat and so grateful to them for sharing their hearts with us. As we continue to grow this ministry to those who have lost a sibling, we see God working in the hearts of those who come. As one person said, “I have more joy in my heart today than I've had in a long time. Everyone was so wonderful. I am most grateful for your work.”( Marie)
“Jesus, we trust in You!”
