Today is the birthday of St Padre Pio and also begins the novena to the Sacred Heart.
This picture is from one of our "Entering Canaan" summer retreats where I chose to focus on the Sacred Heart of Jesus .
I have had a devotion to the Efficacious Novena to the Sacred Heart through Padre Pio . It is one of the prayers I say daily and have been doing for decades. Each day it reminds me of the goodness of God and my desire to truly do His will.
On this particular retreat, we asked for the woman to write their names on the board of the heart before the altar. Some wrote their names directly in the heart, other next to it, still others far away from it. I remember thinking how much it reflected where the women were in their healing and their relationship with God.
Some now trusting in His heart and mercy, others growing closer while others new to ministry and still fearful to approach God because of the shame and guilt they were still carrying regarding their abortions.
Healing from abortion is not a quick fix, it is a journey. A journey to the Heart of Jesus where we find His love and forgiveness, and He teaches us through those He puts in our path, both the faith and the tools we need to heal.
It can be daunting and painful, but as long as we stay in His heart, He will guide and heal us, even if we do not feel like He is.
Healing from an abortion? Consider this novena where you can ask for the things you need to heal, like faith, courage, perseverance, temperance, purity, wisdom, and charity to forgive others and yourself.
Padre Pio said this prayer daily when he was alive and I would not be surprised if he was still saying it….it is a powerful prayer!
