Reclaiming Our Children: A Blog About Healing After Abortion

A recent Huffington Post illustrates just how out of touch the pro abortion lobby is with the reality of countless number of women who have experienced abortion.

In the April 12^th article, “ABC Wanted to Cut ‘Scandal’s’ Iconic Abortion Scene,” Executive Women's Editor, Emma Gray, relates how the show's protagonist, Olivia Pope, has an abortion. The network did not want to air the scene, but succumbed to pressure from threatening articles of what would result if ABC did not allow the abortion to be broadcast.  The proabortion crowd has no problem employing this sort of typical bullying when it comes to abortion while also claiming to abhor bullying. 

The scenario and the message is always the same and quite predictable. Abortion is no big deal.  Everyone does it.  Abortion is not “shameful,” but simply a fact of life. The trouble is, the truth is the exact opposite for the millions of women who have experienced abortion.  Even the Guttmacher Institute states that 10% of postabortive women suffer afterward, which would mean millions of women in pain and despair.  Millions of women in need of understanding, hope, and healing. 

Writing of the scene in Scandal, Gray, states, “The scene was widely praised for portraying abortion as the minimally invasive medical procedure that it is; a health care decision women make for themselves.” Obviously, Gray has not taken the time to speak with women who have been pressured and coerced into abortion by husbands, boyfriends, and parents. I am sure they would disagree that abortion is a "health care decision" they made for themselves.  But, who cares about them, right? As a woman who contacted me recently said, “I was forced to abort a very wanted baby.” She is not alone. When women find themselves threatened with the withdrawal of love, security, and support, they often cave in to the pressure. Where is the concern for those women?

Gray should have also taken the time to speak to those women unable to have children at all because of a previous abortion, or to those women who suffer physical damage as a result of abortion.  Gray could have looked into the latest incident of a woman taken by ambulance from the Tempe Arizona Abortion Clinic on April 1st or the women injured at the Fayetteville, North Carolina Planned Parenthood on the same day.

Gray could have reached out to the postabortive women caught up in the psychological downfall of depression, anxiety, and grief all directly resulting from having had an abortion.  Though impossible, it would be great if Gray could speak to those who have died from a "no big deal abortion." Perhaps she'd like to speak to a family member, a child, parent, or husband left behind in the aftermath of abortion.

Incescent promotion of the misconception that abortion is no big deal is, in fact, a great injustice to women and those who promote this lie should be ashamed. All of the television shows shows in the world will not change the truth of what abortion has done, is still doing, to millions of women. The denial of the reality of their experience by abortion advocates is just as bad; no, even worse, than the stigma they spend so much time trying to abolish while blaming it on everything, everything and anything but the truth of what abortion is.

The truth is abortion kills the unborn.  Abortion hurts, injures and psychologically damages millions of women and yes, abortion kills women too.  I would say the truth about abortion is a very big deal.
