Reclaiming Our Children: A Blog About Healing After Abortion

The devastation to unborn children from abortion is obvious, but, with over 58 million abortions in our country, it is hard to imagine that they would be the only children impacted. 

Time after time, I have kids come up to me to tell me about their aborted siblings and their mother's pain. What most of them fail to go into is the pain that abortion has caused in their own lives.

It is remarkable how many kids, when they learn of an abortion in their family, react with the statement, “so now things make sense." It is as if a missing piece of their lives that they were so aware of, suddenly has put the puzzle of life together for them.

It doesn’t seem to matter if the abortion was before or after their birth, the impact remains d in the fabric of the family, affecting everyone to some degree.

I know I can never express the sorrow and regret I feel for the pain my children went through as a result of the abortion I had when a teen. Though their lives would not come into being until many years later, they certainly lived with the consequences of a wounded mom.  From the person I chose to marry, to my inability to be the mom they deserved for years, they suffered from my sin.

These living siblings need to be allowed to express their feelings without reserve. It is only in working out their feeling and walking through their own pain that they will be able to free themselves from the guilt, anger, confusion, and pain they are experiencing.

With the same Mercy that freed us, our children can learn that they have always been wanted and loved.  They realize that they have an advocate in heaven who desires their peace.  And, most of all, that we have a loving, merciful God who heals us.
