IMG_0888I shared that visiting the Zojoji Temple, in Minato and seeing the Jizo Statutes in memory of the souls of the unborn was one of the highlights of my trip to Japan last month.

I just came across this article, "The Tragedy of Japanese "Water Babies", from 2015. I have also attached a few of my pictures of the Shrine in Tokyo.

As per the article,"Political debate over abortion is virtually non-existent in Japan, and the operation is legal and easily available. Legality doesn’t change a woman’s innately maternal soul, though, which recoils from killing her own child. These are fighting words in the West, but this issue is a lot older than Roe vs. Wade. “Mizuko Kuyo” is a personal communication between dead child and family, although there are social components to their obviously-conflicted feelings."

I think it is amazing that they recognize the life of the child, yet abortion is so easily obtainable there.  Makes me wonder how they justify it while acknowledging that the women "recoils from killing her own child". One has to wonder how many women in Japan are in need of healing or if they are even allowed to express what they experienced.

While Japan is a very respectful culture , I am sure millions of women carry the pain of abortion holding its wounds in their hearts. Still I am thankful they have a place to memorialize their children and hopefully bring some healing. Who knows, maybe "Entering Canaan" will make it to Japan. I am certainly going to do some research into their healing before my next visit.

Here is a video I found on the shrine as well.
