I have been speaking about the impact of abortion on siblings for a very long time.
As a society we hardly give credence to the women and men, it seemed like voicing the harm to siblings would be long time coming, so I was pleasantly surprised to see this article in the New York Times.

My Invisible Brother

The year I turned 16, I asked my mother why I did not have siblings. Having immigrated to North America a decade earlier, my family had long since been freed from China’s one-child policy. Nearly all my high school classmates had siblings, and I wanted to know why my family had chosen differently.
My mother did not respond immediately. Then she looked away. “That’s not entirely true,” she answered at last.
“When you were 5 in New York, I became pregnant,” she said. “And we almost decided to keep him — your little brother.”
Eyes bulging, I barraged her with questions. But my mother stopped answering. A few days later, I asked again and confirmed: 11 years earlier my mother had aborted her pregnancy at 10 weeks.
Sometimes I find myself resenting my brother for never having been born.
