Pro Choice Politician

I am a daily communicant. Now that it is Advent, as in the season of Lent, more people  attend daily mass. It is a wonderful way prepare for the coming of Christ and so nice to see so many people participate.

ProlifeToday at mass a gentleman came in that looked familiar to me. At first I could not place him but then I realized he was a politician in our area. In fact, he is a pro choice politician.

As we participated in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass I could not help but wonder how someone who cares enough to come to daily mass could support the killing ounborn children in the womb. I felt very sad as I looked at him.

He did not receive communion. I do not know why. Somehow in my heart I felt that his stance on abortion kept him away. I could totally be wrong, but I hope that is it. If it is, it shows his respect for the teachings of the church despite his views on abortion. It also shows that faith is important to him.

When I left mass I was thinking how if everyone in that parish prayed for him and befriended him without condoning his actions, perhaps his heart would be moved. Perhaps he would get to a point where Jesus was clearly more important than abortion. Perhaps he would be able to partake in the Bread of Life because he saw Christ in each of us and recognized that Christ gave His life for all life, including his and that of the unborn.

Praying for this man and hoping to see him again tomorrow.
