I am sure some of you will remember the old Smokey Robinson song "The Tracks of My Tears."
People say I'm the life of the party
'Cause I tell a joke or two
Although I might be laughing loud and hearty
Deep inside I'm blueSo take a good look at my face
You know my smile looks out of place
If you look closer it's easy to trace
The tracks of my tears
As someone who had an abortion over thirty years ago, I remember how the words of this song expressed the feelings I was having and the deep pain inside that I hide from the rest of the world. On the outside, it may have looked like I was “the life of the party," but "deep inside” I was more
than blue. I was suffering with suicidal ideation, depression, and self loathing.
These days the song may not be popular, but the feelings expressed by it’s lyrics are still felt by countless men and women suffering from a past abortion. The shame associated with abortion keeps many women and men hiding the "tracks of their tears” for fear someone will find out they have participated in the death of their child.
Do you know someone who may be suffering from an abortion? We challenge you to “look closer” and trace the tracks of their tears in order to offer them the help they need to heal!
