Fr Michael Sepp

TJTM

Fr michaelIt is hard to believe that tomorrow it will be ten years since Father Michael Sepp passed away.

It was a huge loss for many people but I often have a sense of his presence in my life when it comes to certain things.

There are many wonderful memories to cherish and I am so grateful to God for the gift of having known him. He  touched countless people with his humility, love and deep faith and the gift of his priesthood which he cherished each day.

He had asked everyone during his illness to pray a Memorare for him each day. He was in terrible pain which he was offering up for vocations and an end to abortion..

I will never forget the last time I spoke to Father, about a week before his death and he told me, in spite of all his pain, how "blessed" he was by God. How he was so grateful for his priesthood and that God had been so good to him.

Please offer a prayer for him…if you are catholic, a Memorare.

I know we have a wonderful advocate in heaven…

we love you Father Michael….pray for us!

(Father in Medjugore probably close to 30 years ago)
may his soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed rest in peace. Amen.

Fr. Michael was a very close friend of mine and my family. As a matter of fact, we was part of my family. I had the pleasure of working for him and sharing many wonderful moments with him. This loss is very big for me. I pray that God lifts all his pain and that he holds him very close.

I am truly saddened by this news. Fr. Michael was at St. Rita’s early on in his priesthood (late 80’s-Early 90’s). I was a student in St. Rita’s and then worked in the rectory in High School. Fr. Michael is someone who inspired me and truly influenced me as a teenager and young adult. My deepest condolences to his family. I remember him fondly and am one of the many lives he helped nurture, grow and inspire.

Father Mike was a huge influence in my life as a teen. He was a priest at my church, St. Ritas and i have many many memories of things we did together. Went to Yugoslavia, saw The Color Purple with him. He was a member of my family. My deepest condolences to him and his beautiful family.

It is so sad that Father Michael had to leave us. He was such a good child, never fought with anyone, always did as his parents told him. He has always had the Spirt of God in his heart. He was born to be a priest. Before he was a priest he helped people that had problems and never complained about being bothered. He became a priest and has never said no to anyone that needed him to do something for them , nomattter how busy he was, he came to Florida for sick family members, and funerals, and Baptizems. He was always a wonderful person and God took him far to soon, he was loved and will always be loved by everyone he touched. I loved him so much, and was always proud to have him for a cousin. Now I am praying for his Mother and Father his sister Eileen, Joan, Mary Margaret, Alan and E.J. who need our prayers now to get through this very sad time. I am sure Michael will be looking over them in Heaven as he always has in life. Midge

I have had the honor of knowing Father Michael all of my life. I have a vivid memory of gong to a play at Spellman High School with my Mother and Mrs. Sepp, I am sure taht other members of our families were there; and I remember that I was in awe of Father Michael. I knew even then at the age of 7 or 8 that he was someone who’s greatness can not be put into words.
I was lucky enough to have Father Michael marry my Husband and I five years ago, and I felt that same awe that day, he was truly A Great Man, A Great Friend and A Great Priest.
May his Family find strength in this time of sorrow in knowing that Father Michael lives in every heart he touched during his time on earth and that he is loved.

My family and I had the honor of knowing and loving Fr. Michael. He did so much for the people that he touched at St. Rita’s and wherever he went after that. He taught us to pray through our singing and to enjoy the joy it brought. God bless him and his family.

I received a phone call Friday from Fr. Larry Paolicelli, a dear friend of mine to inform me that our dear friend Fr. Michael Sepp, had passed on Friday a few hours after Fr. Larry left.I am glad that Fr. Larry was with him to say goodbye. I wish I was too. No words were spoken at first as the grief was great. My heart and prays go out to Fr. Michael’s family, friends and also to Fr Larry his fishing buddy. I will miss seeing Fr Michael in Montauk this season and will cherish the mass he said for me the last time he was in Montauk. I knew he was in a lot of pain. Mass was offered up for Fr. Michael yesterday by Fr. Charles Erhardt who had the pleasure of meeting Fr Michael. They co-celebrated mass at St Therese of Lisieux and got to know one other briefly over dinner that evening. Fr. Michael you will always be in my prayers and heart forever. I will miss you terribly deaar friend.”Angels on you pillow” Ginny Galletta-Stevens

I attend Sacred Heart Church (the last parish he served) and was at his viewing last night. I heard many people saying that they were amazed at the turn out. There were easily over 1,000 people there last night paying their respects. Personally I was NOT surprised. Fr. Michael was an extraordinary person who, regardless of his schedule made SURE he made time for every single person that asked for his help. He always listened intently and never failed to provide his advice…. especially if you brought him sweets 🙂 In the 8-9 years that I’ve known Fr. Michael, he never failed in making me look at the brighter things in life. I know he is in a much better place today, not suffering anymore, but I feel selfish because I wish I could’ve had just one more day with him to tell him just how much he’s touched my life…and I’m a bit regretful in not sharing just that with him when I saw him 2 weeks ago.
My deepest condolences go out to his family. I’m certain they are already aware of what an amazing man Fr.Michael was….but I’m also certain reading everyone’s comments here will only touch their hearts even more.
    To his mother and father:
You raised a caring, warm-hearted, and generous man. And I am honored to have spent time with him….because to me he was more than just a priest, he was a friend.
    GOD BLESS YOU FATHER MICHAEL….

I have to say when I began this post it was a way to memorialize and pray for someone who was loved and also touched my families lives.
I too am not surprised at all that the place was packed last night. I would not have expected any less for a priest who truly lived the Gospel in humility and gratitude for the gifts of God.
I am so touched by all the comments. . thank you.

Fr. Michael was not only my spiritual leader for over 20 years, but also my confidant and best friend.
I was his first “experience” in having to tell the parents of a teenager that their daughter was pregnant. I still remember him coming over for dinner and I believe he was more nervous than I was as his ears were as red as a tomato. We joked at the fact that I started a chain reaction as he had to do the same thing two more times that year.
He went on to perform my marriage ceremony and baptize all four of my children.
I now have the best guardian angel!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree that St. Rita’s has never been the same after Fr. Michael left.
He was a great friend to my mother and father and we loved having him over our house for dinner even after he moved to the Bronx he would take time to come over. He performed my marriage ceremony and when my mother passed, three years ago, he performed the funeral mass. He has always been there for our family and he will be sorely missed.
I’m so very sad to hear of his passing. But know that he is with God and my Mom, in heaven.
    We love you Fr. Michael!!!

Father Michael Sepp is a true Soldier of Christ. His life was devoted to God through his service to the church. I consider myself truly blessed that he has always been in my life. He was born one year before me, to a large extended family. Growing up with him was so much fun; he wasn’t only my cousin, he was my friend. If you knew me, you knew him, because I wanted all my friends to meet him.
There wasn’t an important event in my life that we did not share: graduations, weddings, christenings and yes, funerals. He was always there with his great smile and encouraging words. During his priesthood he took on a much larger family and although he always came to family functions, his stay was usually brief because he had the needs of his parish family to attend to. My daughter Meghan said that when Fr. Michael came to a function she felt so special because he was there. After Fr. Michael died I thought that nothing could ever be the same because he would not be there; however, I realize that he will always be in our lives because of his impeccable spirit that embraces us.
Today I learned that on Monday, March 16, Pope Benedict XVI declared that the “Year of the Priest” will begin on June,19 2009, the feast day of the Sacred Heart. I feel comfort in knowing that Fr. Michael’s prayers for vocations are being heard.
I thank my Aunt Joan and Uncle Elmar for giving Fr.Michael to me and to his siblings Eileen, Joan, Mary, Alan and EJ for sharing him with me.
Fr.Michael, thank you for being you.
    Love,
    Mary

A little miracle from Heaven. Already Fr. Michael is fast at work from Heaven. Many years ago I introduced Fr. Larry and Fr. Michael to my sister who lived in Montauk, because I know they loved to fish. I didn’t realize that they had continued going to Montauk all these yearts because I hadn’t seen my sister in 15 years and I hadn’t talked with her in about 8. However when I went to the beautiful mass for Fr. Michael on Tuesday I was going over the booklet and saw that she had written in the blog. I was suprised and shocked. I immediately felt Fr. Michael speaking to me and quietly urging me to contact her. With some prayer I got the courage to call her the next day. I called her wanting to verify her address so I could send her the booklet since she was not able to come to the mass. I thought that she would like that. We were on the phone for one and a half hours. Hopefully we will get to see each other soon. Thank you Fr. Michael for being an angel and continuing your work in Heaven. Keep praying for out family and it’s healing.

This is very sad. I was at Fr. .Michael’s first mass. I was also there when he was ordained. As a young woman, I found, then Deacon Michael, and later Fr. Michael to be very spiritual, enlightened, and inspirational. As the years went by, we no longer kept in touch. However, I was saddened to hear of his death. I have no doubt that Fr.Michael lived his life in a manner which helped others to grow in God’s faith. He will be missed. I will keep his family in my prayers.

I am very saddened by this news. I had begun searching for Fr Mike to update him. because of him , my faith was renewed nearly 25 years ago, he married my husband and I. He baptized our son and I wanted to thank him again for his counsel that helped my husband and I . we will be celebrating our 25th and I wanted him to be a part of that very special time. Our time at St Rita’s would not have been the same without him and his involvement in our lives and the lives of our children.
God Bless him and may he always rest in peace in the arms of Mary. Dear Fr Mike: I will be eternally grateful to your unjudgemental support and encouragement. please be a guardian angel for my Beau. he is so lost. I am so glad you are relieved of your suffering. My children Chris and Katie and I talk of you so often. As we moved away you never got to know our youngest Benjamin, but I know you would have liked him as well. you are missed and loved so very much. You are the reason Marc and I are married. thank you.

Padrea has always been there for me and my family. He was there when my Dad was dying…he was there all through high school and college…I wouldnt be here today if it wasnt for father Mick. I called him about two week before he past and I knew that would be the last time I would hear his voice. He was a father to us all as well as a friend. I went up to New York to see Father at the cemetry and to pay my respect. I left him a small puerto rican flag in honor of all the things he has done for the hispanic community. He never let me down. He always treated me as if I was his son…me and lorenzo. I miss him more and more everyday…like a piece of me was ripped out of my heart. I know hes in a better place and I dont want him to suffer. Rest father…I love you -Fredo
