By His Wounds We Are Healed

“But he was pierced for our
transgressions, he was crushed for
our iniquities; the punishment that
brought us peace was on him, and
by his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5)

ChristIt is hard to look at this picture . I have often wondered how, after such a scourging, Jesus was even able to get to Golgotha, the site of the Crucifixion. We cannot even begin to imagine the pain He must have endured and yet  the scripture above tells us this was “the punishment that brought us peace.”

Jesus won our salvation, forgiveness for our sins, and our healing through His wounds. In this terrible act of violence, this punishment, this sight so hard to see, we meet Mercy Himself. It can be hard for us to comprehend. A total act of self giving endured out of love for us. The ultimate price. The ultimate mercy.

This is our faith and what we need to focus on, especially in times of doubt and despair. Not ourselves or our abortions, or any other sin any of us may have committed, but this act of love. We need to claim our forgiveness once we have confessed because the price of our sin has already been paid and we have already been forgiven. We do not have to do anything to receive it; it is there waiting for us, longing for us to accept it. This is the desire of God as He waits for us to allow Him to love us, heal us, and yes… change us!

I love the season of Lent. It is a time to reflect deeply on the mysteries of our faith, the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is also a time to reflect on His unfathomable mercy for each of us. A love that frees us and drowns our sins in the ocean of His mercy no matter how great our sins!

“Let the greatest sinners place their trust in My mercy. They have the right before others to
trust in the abyss of My mercy. My daughter, write about My mercy towards tormented souls.
Souls that make an appeal to My mercy delight Me. To such souls I grant even more graces than
they ask. I cannot punish even the greatest sinner if he makes an appeal to My compassion, but on
the contrary, I justify him in My unfathomable
and inscrutable mercy. (1146)
